A thematic map is visualizing covid data in California State prisons, with the aim of establishing a difference between confirmed cases and confirmed deaths in state prisons. A color gradient is representing the number of deaths, ranging from light to dark. On the other hand, the number of confirmed cases is represented by the relative size of the points. Generally speaking, there appears to be a weak to moderate correlation between the number of cases at a prison and deaths there. Notable exceptions include the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo County, where the relative ratio of deaths to cases is high, and the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Kings County, where the same ratio is relatively small. Ultimately, these ratios are highly sensitive to the number of deaths at a prison, considering the number of total cases far outweighs total deaths.
